A 75-year-old Nevada woman was fatally shot by a mugger while walking with her sister, according to authorities.
Incident Details
The attack occurred on May 12 near South El Capitan Way and West Flamingo Road in Las Vegas. The mugger, 24-year-old Devion Teague, allegedly approached the women, demanded their belongings, and shot Hester Johnson when she hesitated. Her sister, Iredell Washington, gave her belongings and survived. Teague then fled in a vehicle.
Victim Tribute
Johnson, a volunteer and sign language interpreter for Opportunity Village, was described as compassionate and dedicated to helping others. Washington recalled cradling her sister as she bled, crying, “Don’t leave me here all by myself!” She emphasized wanting justice for her sister.
Suspect and Charges
Teague was identified and located by police during the investigation. He is charged with open murder with a deadly weapon and two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon. He is also facing separate charges related to grand larceny of a motor vehicle. His next court date is July 1.
Community Impact
Washington described her sister as her best friend and said they walked together daily. She expressed determination to seek justice and honor Johnson’s memory.
