"They had someone in the trunk": Missing adolescent was kidnapped, abused, and fatally shot, authorities say

Five people have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping and killing of a Missouri teenager whose body was discovered one week after she was reported missing.

Teen Reported Missing by Family

Authorities identified the victim as Kayla Huff, 16.

According to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, Huff’s family reported her missing on May 6.

Investigators later found her body at the Rudolf Bennitt Conservation Area.

Multiple Suspects Charged

Police arrested:

  • Hunter Ames, 19
  • Christopher Hull, 23
  • Alayna Mason, 20

All three were charged with kidnapping.

Authorities also charged Julian L. Mason with tampering with physical evidence.

Huff’s 17-year-old boyfriend was also arrested in connection with the investigation.

Investigators Describe Planned Attack

Court documents allege the suspects worked together to disable Huff’s vehicle by pouring motor oil into the gas tank before she disappeared.

Investigators said surveillance footage and cellphone records placed several suspects near Huff’s home before the kidnapping.

Authorities allege Huff was later transported in the trunk of a vehicle to a conservation area, where she was assaulted and shot to death.

Evidence Allegedly Hidden After Killing

Investigators said Ames admitted helping dispose of evidence, including an expandable baton allegedly used during the assault.

Police also allege he provided the firearm used in the killing.

Investigation Remains Active

Sheriff Andy Boggs described the case as a heartbreaking tragedy for the community.

Officials said the homicide investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue gathering evidence and conducting interviews.
