Joshua Thompson, 25, is facing murder charges after allegedly killing his ex-girlfriend, Kaitlynn Lee, 25, while she was filming a TikTok video in the kitchen of an Indiana apartment. Thompson is also charged with criminal recklessness, unlawfully carrying a gun, and violating a protective order meant to prevent domestic violence.
Details of the Fatal Shooting
On the morning of August 10, 2024, Thompson reportedly broke a protective order when he went to a home in New Albany, Indiana, where Lee was with a friend. While Lee and her friend were recording a TikTok video, Thompson was seen standing outside the apartment. When Lee saw him and asked, “What are you doing here?” Thompson allegedly fired into the apartment. The gunshot was captured in the video, and Lee was struck in the head, falling out of view of the camera.
Thompson later called 911 and confessed to shooting Lee. He admitted that he had gone to the apartment to check if she was with other men, and after seeing her dancing for the video, he opened fire.
Change of Plea Hearing Scheduled
Thompson initially pleaded not guilty to the charges, but court records show he has requested a change of plea hearing, which is scheduled for May 28, 2026.
Lee’s Family and Legacy
Lee, who was a mother to three children, was mourned by her family, including her mother and brother. Her tragic death has drawn attention to the toxic nature of her relationship with Thompson, which had been marked by ongoing conflicts.
