A man from Berkeley County, South Carolina, has been arrested after police say he assaulted a deputy and made serious threats during a trespassing incident at a gas station. The situation began with a 911 call and quickly turned into a tense encounter with law enforcement.
Incident at Gas Station in Berkeley County
According to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded on Wednesday to a Parker’s gas station located at 1105 N. Highway 52. The call came in after a man reportedly dialed 911 and said he was feeling homicidal.
Authorities later identified the suspect as Malik Torez Evans, a 26-year-old resident of Moncks Corner.
Previous Trespass Warning and Recent Release
Before arriving at the scene, deputies were informed that Evans had already been given a trespass warning for the same property. This meant he was not allowed to be there.
Officials also noted that Evans had just been released from the Hill-Finklea Detention Center one day before the incident.
Attempt to Escape and Assault on Deputy
When deputies reached the gas station, they confirmed the trespass order and tried to take Evans into custody. However, the situation escalated quickly.
Authorities say Evans attempted to run away and, during the attempt, struck a deputy in the face. After a short struggle, deputies were able to control the situation and arrest him.
Threats Made After Arrest
Even after being taken into custody, the situation did not calm down. Officials reported that Evans made several threats toward the deputy.
According to the sheriff’s office, he said he would kill the deputy after being released from jail and also threatened to shoot him for arresting him.
Charges Filed Against the Suspect
Evans was taken back to the Hill-Finklea Detention Center, where he now faces multiple serious charges, including:
- Trespassing
- Resisting arrest with assault on law enforcement
- Threatening the life of a public official
