Nearly 40 employees from HCA Healthcare spent part of their Saturday giving back to the community, volunteering at the Lowcountry Food Bank to help combat food insecurity across the region.
Hundreds of Food Boxes Packed in Just Two Hours
Volunteers from multiple HCA facilities—including Trident, Summerville, Colleton and Live Oak Mental Health and Wellness hospitals—joined staff from the South Atlantic Division office for the effort.
In just two hours, the group packed 480 boxes of food destined for local school pantries. According to organizers, the boxes totaled approximately 10,560 pounds, with volunteers working at an average pace of 167 pounds of food per minute.
Additional Efforts Support Local Families
Beyond assembling food boxes, the team also sorted more than 12,000 pounds of sweet potatoes, further contributing to supplies that will be distributed to families in need throughout the Lowcountry.
Community Impact Beyond Healthcare
Jeff Wilson, CEO of Trident Hospital, emphasized that the organization’s role extends beyond providing medical care.
He noted that access to nutritious food is essential for maintaining overall health and supporting children’s ability to learn and thrive.
Part of Nationwide Volunteer Initiative
The event was part of HCA Healthcare’s “We Show Up” program, a nationwide initiative that includes around 190 volunteer projects taking place in April.
Through these efforts, employees aim to strengthen the communities where they live and work by addressing needs such as hunger and access to essential resources.
