A Florida man has been charged with murder months after his friend fell to his death from a high-rise apartment balcony, with investigators alleging a violent struggle preceded the fatal incident.

Victim’s 911 Call Captures Final Moments

According to investigators, Justin Zelin, 35, called 911 on Feb. 15 from his apartment in the Akoya Condominium building.

During the call, Zelin could reportedly be heard telling Corey Hutterli, 37, to leave his apartment. At one point, he referred to him by the nickname “Sasha,” repeatedly saying, “Get away from me.”

Dispatchers later heard what authorities described as the sound of a struggle before Zelin stopped responding. His voice was not heard again.

Fatal Fall Captured on Surveillance

Police said surveillance video captured Zelin’s body hitting the ground outside the building at approximately 10:30 a.m.

Officers arrived shortly after and encountered Hutterli outside in what they described as an “excited state,” reportedly barefoot and appearing to have rushed out of the building.

When questioned, Hutterli allegedly claimed that Zelin had attacked him and said he believed Zelin had taken an elevator.

Evidence Suggests Violent Struggle

Investigators reported that surveillance footage contradicted Hutterli’s account, showing him leaving the apartment about one minute after Zelin’s fall.

Inside the apartment, police found signs of a struggle, including:

  • Disarray throughout the residence
  • Open balcony doors
  • Blood on the balcony railing
  • Tufts of beard hair belonging to Hutterli

Authorities also recovered Hutterli’s backpack, which allegedly contained additional hair and was believed to have been used in an attempt to remove or conceal evidence.

Forensic Findings and Injuries

Police said Hutterli had visible injuries, including cuts on his hands, scratches on his arms, and missing patches of facial hair.

DNA analysis later reportedly matched Hutterli to blood found on the balcony railing, while blood on his clothing was linked to both men.

Investigators also said ketamine was found in Hutterli’s backpack.

Charges and Legal Proceedings

Hutterli was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and burglary with assault and battery. He is currently being held at a local correctional facility, and his bond has not yet been set.

During a court appearance, his defense attorney argued that there were no eyewitnesses and no direct evidence proving how the fatal injuries occurred or who caused them.

Investigation Ongoing

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Zelin’s death as the case moves forward through the legal system.
