A Texas man was allegedly killed after returning home from work—unaware that his wife had already been murdered by her own daughter and the daughter’s partner, according to authorities.

Victims Identified in Double Homicide

According to the Medina County Sheriff’s Office, Cassandra Lange, 29, and Joby Williams, 30, have been charged with capital murder of multiple persons.

The victims were identified as Cherry Rehbein, 54, and her husband Stephen Rehbein, 58. Authorities said Lange is Cherry’s biological daughter, and Stephen was her stepfather.

Alleged Timeline of Killings

Investigators believe the suspects killed Cherry Rehbein at her home in Mico, Texas, on Monday. Later that day, when Stephen Rehbein returned home from work, he was also killed.

The crimes went undiscovered for two days until Stephen failed to show up for work, prompting a coworker to request a welfare check.

Welfare Check Uncovers Evidence

When deputies arrived at the residence, they were unable to contact anyone but observed signs of possible foul play. Authorities reported finding bloody items in a trash can outside the home.

Search warrants were obtained, and investigators began tracking the victims’ vehicles.

Suspects Located in Another City

One of the vehicles was later spotted traveling near Corpus Christi, Texas. Law enforcement stopped the vehicle and found Lange and Williams inside, along with two children.

Authorities said the children—a 6-year-old girl and a 1-month-old baby—were placed in protective care. The older child was released to her father, while the infant was taken into custody by state child welfare services.

Alleged Confession Leads to Discovery

During questioning, officials said Lange confessed that she and Williams had killed both victims and disposed of their bodies in a ravine.

Investigators then searched the Medina Lake area, where they located two large garbage bags hidden in a deep ravine. The remains were recovered and sent for autopsies.

Charges and Ongoing Investigation

Both suspects are being held on $1 million bonds as the investigation continues.

The Medina County Sheriff’s Office said further details may emerge as authorities continue to process evidence and determine the full circumstances surrounding the killings.
