A Georgia mother is facing multiple charges after authorities say her young children were left alone for hours in unsafe conditions, leading to the death of a one-year-old.

Child Found Dead After Being Left Alone

According to investigators, the incident occurred in Douglasville, where a one-year-old child died after being left unattended with five siblings.

Authorities allege the children were alone for approximately 12 hours without adequate food or proper living conditions.

Charges Filed Against Mother

Sherry Magby, 37, has been charged with six counts of second-degree cruelty to children.

Officials say five of the children were left in the care of a 10-year-old sibling during that time.

Magby was arrested earlier this month and is currently being held without bond.

Conditions Inside the Home

According to the arrest warrant, police described the home as having a strong, foul odor and unsanitary conditions.

Investigators also allege the children resorted to eating ants and cockroaches due to lack of food.

Community Reaction

Local outreach workers expressed concern over the situation, saying resources were available to help the family.

Community members said they wished they had known about the conditions earlier so assistance could have been provided.

Ongoing Investigation

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the case.

State officials say they are cooperating with law enforcement as the investigation moves forward.
