A tragic incident in San Antonio has ended with a long prison sentence, bringing some closure to a heartbreaking case.
Court Verdict and Sentence
Roland Contreras, 35, has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for the murder of Gabrielle Felis Del Angel. He was also convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for attempting to shoot her husband.
According to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office, the jury reached a guilty verdict in just about 30 minutes.
What Happened That Night
The incident took place on April 6, 2023, at a taco stand on Southwest Military Drive. Del Angel and her husband had stopped to get food, with her husband waiting in line while she remained in their vehicle.
Police say Contreras suddenly approached the husband, pulled out a gun, and began shouting at him. Fearing for his safety, the husband ran back to the vehicle, and the couple tried to leave the area.
However, Contreras followed them and fired multiple shots as they attempted to escape. One of the bullets struck Del Angel in the chest, causing a fatal injury. Her husband drove to a nearby gas station to call for help, but she later died.
Investigation and Arrest
Authorities later confirmed that Del Angel was not the intended target. Her husband was able to identify Contreras as the attacker. After the shooting, police attempted to arrest him the same night, but he had fled. He was eventually taken into custody about a month later.
