A shocking and rare homicide in Lafayette has shaken a quiet and affluent community, marking the city’s first reported murder in nearly two decades.
Victim Found Dead in Upscale Neighborhood
Christopher Jaber, 34, was found dead inside his home on Westminster Place. The area is known for its peaceful environment, top schools, and high-value homes, making the incident even more disturbing for residents.
Police responded to a 911 call from a relative who reported a suspicious man carrying a weapon in the backyard. By the time officers arrived, Jaber had already been killed.
Suspect Arrested Nearby
Authorities quickly identified David Swank Prince, 35, as the suspect. He was found walking a short distance from the scene and was taken into custody.
Prosecutors say the attack was targeted and involved a hatchet, making the crime especially brutal.
Disturbing Online Threats Surface
Investigators also discovered a troubling online post believed to be linked to Prince. Weeks before the incident, the post reportedly mentioned Jaber by name and included threatening language.
This has led officials to believe the attack was planned rather than random.
Charges and Legal Action
Prince has been charged with murder, along with an additional charge for using a deadly weapon. He is currently being held at a detention facility with bail set at $1 million.
The case is still under investigation as authorities work to understand the motive behind the attack.
Community in Shock
Residents of Lafayette are struggling to process the घटना, as violent crime is extremely rare in the area. The incident has broken the sense of safety that the community has enjoyed for many years.
