Students at Thomas C. Cario Middle School in Mount Pleasant got an unexpected surprise this week when a hawk accidentally dropped its freshly caught fish onto the school grounds.
According to a Facebook post from the Charleston County School District, hawks that frequent the Park West area flew over the campus Wednesday and released their lunch mid-flight, scattering fish in multiple spots around the school.
Seafood Delivery Gone Wrong
One of the fish reportedly landed directly on a sidewalk, creating a scene more fitting for a coastal dock than a middle school campus. District officials jokingly compared the mishap to “fumbling the bag,” noting that while healthy lunches are encouraged, surprise seafood drops are not part of the cafeteria menu.
The unexpected delivery did not pose a safety threat, but it certainly turned heads among students and staff.
Officer Steps In to Clean Up
The situation was handled by School Resource Officer AJ Santos of the Mount Pleasant Police Department, who removed the fish from campus grounds.
There was no indication that the hawk returned to reclaim its lost meal. Classes continued as normal after the brief wildlife interruption.
