Ejected driver dies after his automobile leaves Rivers Avenue and crashes a tree in North Charleston.

Lorton Anderson, a 67-year-old Charleston resident, died from injuries in a single-vehicle crash on Rivers Avenue in North Charleston, South Carolina. The incident occurred around 6:02 p.m. on February 15, 2026, near Gumwood Boulevard.​

Crash Details

Anderson was the sole occupant driving when his vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a tree. He was ejected from the vehicle and rushed to Trident Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries at 6:29 p.m. No other vehicles were involved.​

Investigation

The North Charleston Police Department Traffic Unit and Charleston County Coroner’s Office are probing the cause, with the inquiry ongoing as of February 17, 2026. Preliminary findings point to loss of control leading to the fatal impact.​
