Jose N. Gonzalez-Cervera, 45, of North Charleston, died from blunt force injuries in a fatal hit-and-run on Rivers Avenue near Hawthorne Drive on New Year’s night. The Charleston County Coroner’s Office confirmed his identity as the pedestrian victim killed at the scene.​
Suspect and Charges
Fabian Solis-Espinosa, 22, faces two counts of felony DUI causing great bodily injury, two counts of leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, and possession of cocaine, per North Charleston Police Department reports. His breathalyzer registered 0.20% BAC, well above the legal limit, with further testing sent to state authorities; he received a $89,739 bond but remains held due to an ICE detainer.

This pedestrian fatality occurred separately from an earlier New Year’s Day crash at the same intersection, where Solis-Espinosa allegedly struck a motorcycle, injuring two riders before fleeing.
