Before leaving with his 18-month-old sister, the son calls 911 to report that his father stabbed his mother in the kitchen.

Malang Jan Akbari, 46, faces first-degree murder, child endangerment, and armed criminal action charges in Jefferson City, Missouri, after allegedly stabbing his wife to death on January 12, 2026, and fleeing with their 18-month-old daughter.

Incident Overview

Akbari called his son to confess, “I killed your mom, and I left the house,” prompting a 911 call around 12:25 p.m.; the son found his mother bleeding on the kitchen floor. He suspected infidelity, stabbed her, placed a pillow under her head as she died, prayed over his daughter, and dropped her at a relative’s home before driving off in a blue 2015 Honda Odyssey. An Amber Alert led to his arrest that day on Highway 50.

Akbari confessed to detectives via interpreter, expressing regret but claiming “no other option,” and faces life without parole if convicted. His attorney, David Moen, entered a not guilty plea citing Akbari’s “severely impaired” mental condition from Afghan Army service injuries; the family moved to Jefferson County four years ago. A bond review is set for January 21, 2026, and preliminary hearing for February 19.
