Two drivers died in a wrong-way head-on collision on southbound I-385 near Highway 221 in Laurens County, South Carolina, around 10:15 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2025. A 2024 Subaru traveling south collided with a 2005 Nissan driving north in the southbound lanes.​​
Victim Identities
The Laurens County Coroner’s Office identified the Subaru driver as 20-year-old Adriana Torres Lopez (also reported as Audriana or Adriana Lopez), a University of South Carolina junior from Simpsonville studying psychology and art. The Nissan driver was 66-year-old Michael Cutshaw (or Kutshaw) from Marion, North Carolina, who had been reported missing earlier that day and reportedly had dementia.​​
Investigation Status
The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues investigating why the Nissan entered the wrong lanes, with both occupants dying at the scene. The crash temporarily closed all southbound lanes. USC expressed sympathies to Lopez’s family and friends.
