James Island, South Carolina – The Charleston Police Department began the holiday season of giving on Friday with its annual Cram the Cruiser drop-off at Walmarts, inviting the community to help.
After Thanksgiving, everyone’s attention will shift to Christmas and spreading festive goodwill. Especially those in need over the holiday season.
According to Charleston Police Department Lieutenant Anthony Gibson, there will undoubtedly be smiles on the faces of those who receive the gifts, as well as the police. “But it’s equally returned to the officers that are out here every day.”
Cram the Cruiser on Friday is the first event in CPD’s 7th annual Santa’s Escort Ride in collaboration with Walmart. The staff spent the day visiting two Walmarts in West Ashley and Folly, collecting unused items for all ages from customers.
“What we’re taking are unwrapped gifts from those who are present. “People are buying, shopping here, and dropping things,” Lt. Gibson added. ” We’ll leave once this cruiser is full. As a result, whatever we collect here today will remain in our community.
Each toy contributed immediately benefits the Fisher House and the Ronald McDonald Foundation. The toys will subsequently be hand-delivered by CPD and Walmart on December 10th for Santa’s Escort Ride.
Amy Osborn, Walmart’s Senior Manager of neighborhood Relations, explained that many people in the neighborhood are in desperate need at this time of year. “For us to be able to offer a way for our community to come together and, you know, provide those donations for those folks that are in need is really important.”
The community is also urged to participate leading up to Santa’s Escort Ride.
“You may also drop off gifts at 180 Lockwood Boulevard.” You can also use our Amazon link and send directly to the police station at 180 Lockwood Boulevard,” Lt. Gibson explained.
