Common Heart served Thanksgiving meals to 1,500 families in Union County, Matthews, and Mint Hill on Saturday.

The event took place from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Common Heart’s site on Business Park Drive in Indian Trail, and families received a frozen turkey and all of the fixings for a Thanksgiving feast.

According to its website, Common Heart is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the elimination of food insecurity.

According to organizers, the distribution aimed to equip families with the resources they needed to create their own Thanksgiving meals, allowing them to spend the holiday with a traditional feast.

Volunteers gathered at Common Heart to pack and distribute the meals, adding to the community’s effort to help families throughout the holiday season.
