Charleston County, South Carolina – A Charleston man was arrested Sunday after leading Charleston County deputies on a high-speed chase that reached 100 mph at times and attempted to attack an officer with his car.

Adonis Youngblood Jr., 22, was arrested and charged with attempted murder, possessing a weapon during a violent crime, reckless driving, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, failing to stop for blue lights, and driving while suspended.

A officer attempted to stop a silver Jeep Patriot when its driver, Youngblood, made an improper lane change on Ashley Phosphate Road near Northwoods Boulevard.

According to a Charleston County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the driver ignored the officer’s requests and sped above 100 mph, disobeying lights and weaving through traffic.

Several North Charleston officers assisted and attempted to use stop sticks, but Youngblood managed to escape them.

Youngblood drove onto I-526 and swerved in a “obvious attempt” to hit a cop standing outside his vehicle, according to the report. The deputy dived out of the way and narrowly avoided being struck.

During the pursuit, Youngblood drove into a ditch and collided with a garbage can at Spur Street before regaining control and heading onto Orchid Avenue. Youngblood abandoned his truck on Orchid Avenue and escaped on foot.

He was captured shortly after, at the intersection of Leeds and Dellwood Avenue.

Youngblood informed officers that he ran because he knew his license was suspended, and he had recently been released from Berkeley County jail for driving while suspended.

Officers searched the vehicle and discovered around 30 grams of marijuana, as well as a loaded black Smith and Wesson 9 mm handgun. Youngblood is currently in the custody of the South Carolina Department of Correction.
