Turkey Day Giveaway returns with four activities that will feed thousands in the Charleston area

Low Country, South Carolina — The Humanities Foundation announced Wednesday that it will perform its annual Turkey Day Giveaway, a series of community food distribution programs that give Thanksgiving meals to families throughout the Lowcountry.

According to the organization, with the lingering uncertainty surrounding federal SNAP payments and increased food prices, they will work hard to ensure that no one goes hungry during the holidays.

“While times are uncertain for many, particularly with ongoing changes to food assistance programs, our message remains consistent: no one should go hungry,” said Tracy Doran, President and Founder of the Humanities Foundation. “We are here to help, with the partnerships and resources needed to meet this growing need.”

This year’s Turkey Day Giveaway features four drive-through and walk-up food distribution events:

  • Nov. 13 – First Baptist Church of James Island | 1:30 PM – Until Everything is Gone
  • Nov. 19 – Charleston Police Department Drive-Thru Distribution, Brittlebank Park | 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
  • Nov. 21 – Holiday Turkey & Food Drive with Eastside Community Development Corporation and South Carolina State University 1890 Research & Extension Center | 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
  • Nov. 24 – A Day of Thanks & Giving, Charleston County School District 4 Regional Stadium| 1:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Through these giveaway events and partnerships with organizations such as the James Doran Company, GrowFood Carolina, Charleston Police Department, Eastside Community Development Corporation, and South Carolina State University 1890 Research & Extension Center, the foundation hopes to distribute thousands of Thanksgiving meals and grocery items to local families.

Beyond the holiday season, anyone in need of a healthy meal can take advantage of The Humanities Foundation’s Marketplace Food Pantry Program. This program ensures year-round access to nutritional food in its affordable housing units.

“Our Marketplace program allows us to serve families well beyond Thanksgiving,” said Lamar Mowatt, Director of Resident Services and Community Relations. “We’re proud to stand with our partners and donors to ensure residents have access to healthy food all year long.”

Those who wish to help the Turkey Day Giveaway can donate.
