After examining and rechecking a lottery ticket several times, a Midlands man accepted that he had won a South Carolina Education Lottery scratch-off game.

After three days of skepticism and a second evaluation from a relative, the guy accepted that he had won the game’s $100,000 grand prize, organizers said in a news release.

“I was in disbelief,” he explained in the statement.

According to the announcement, he believed his eyes were tricking him when he scratched the Lady Jumbo Bucks Crossword ticket he purchased for $3 at the Speedway gas station/convenience store on North Lake Drive in Lexington to win six digits. That’s near the intersection with Sunset Boulevard.

Officials said he stored the ticket in a drawer. The next day, he kept opening the drawer to study the ticket, and at one point, he wrote down and tallied every word on the crossword ticket to ensure he had the 11 words needed to win, according to the statement.

But he was still not convinced.

On the third day, he showed the ticket to a family member, who assured him that it was authentic, according to officials.

According to the announcement, the man did not provide precise plans on how he intends to spend his sudden riches, but stated that it will be donated to a church and used to support his family.

South Carolina is one of 11 states—along with Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas, and Virginia—that enable lottery winners to remain anonymous.

According to the statement, the winner won the Lady Jumbo Bucks Crossword game against odds of 600,000-to-1. According to organizers, two of the game’s top seven rewards have yet to be claimed.

The Speedway at North Lake Drive in Lexington received a $1,000 commission for selling the claimed ticket.
