Greer parents should be aware of several key new school policies for the 2025-2026 academic year that impact student safety, academic performance, and curriculum transparency:
- Sex Education Curriculum: Sex education will be conducted through PE 1 classes with instruction scheduled from August 14-26 (1st semester) and January 7-20 (2nd semester). Parents have the right to preview these materials in person at the school or online and can ask questions by contacting the school directly.
- Cell Phone Use Ban: Starting January 1, 2025, a statewide policy requires all public schools to ban student use of cell phones during the school day to enhance focus and well-being. Enforcement in Greer schools began with the 2025 school year.
- Graduation and College Readiness: Greer High School notably improved and now boasts a graduation rate over 90%, with 85% of graduates deemed college/career ready. Schools emphasize career readiness assessments like WIN Learning for juniors.
- Discipline and Anti-Bullying: Strong no-tolerance policies exist for bullying, harassment, intimidation, and misconduct to ensure a safe and respectful school environment. Parents and students are encouraged to report incidents promptly for intervention.
- Attendance and Grading: Uniform State Board-approved policies govern attendance and grading, including seat time recovery options for academic credit recovery.
- Charter School Enrollment: Greer Preparatory Academy is a public charter school opening grades 3-8 by Fall 2026 with enrollment applications opening Jan 2026, offering families new educational options.
- Special Education and Title IX: Schools provide identification and support for students with disabilities and maintain clear anti-discrimination policies under Title IX, with designated coordinators to address concerns.
Parents are encouraged to stay connected with their child’s school to review handbooks, attend meetings, and communicate with faculty to support their child’s educational success and well-being in Greer schools.
