Parents in Sumter should be aware of several updated school policies for the 2025-2026 school year aimed at promoting safety, inclusivity, and academic success:
Updated Code of Conduct:Â Sumter School District has implemented a revised Code of Conduct designed to create a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment. The policy emphasizes respect, empathy, responsible citizenship, and aims to support students’ academic, social, and emotional growth.
Immunization Requirements:Â There is a district-wide audit of immunization records for all students. Children must have a valid South Carolina Certificate of Immunization or an approved exemption (medical, religious, or special) to attend school. Parents will be notified if their child’s records are incomplete or invalid and must provide valid certification within 30 days to avoid exclusion from school.
Electronic Device Use:Â Effective January 6, 2025, students are prohibited from accessing personal electronic devices during the school day unless specifically authorized by educators for classroom use.
Parental Engagement:Â The district encourages parents to register for the Parent Portal to stay connected with their child’s education and to schedule conferences with teachers when needed. There is also an active Parent Teacher Organization for community involvement.
Safety and Bullying:Â The school policies include guidelines for reporting bullying and safety concerns to maintain a secure environment for all students.
These policies reflect Sumter schools’ commitment to fostering a positive educational climate and ensuring student well-being and accountability in the 2025-26 academic year.
