Two Louisiana parents are in custody after being accused of killing their two-month-old child.

The Opelousas Police Department claimed it arrested the infant’s mother after the 2-month-old girl was discovered unresponsive on October 25.

The infant was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead. According to police, the girl sustained catastrophic injuries, including shattered ribs and a severed lower spine, as well as evidence of excessive dehydration and malnutrition.

According to investigators, the infant’s parents, Kaylee Fontenot and Taylor Broussard, have had exclusive custody of her since birth.

The police secured arrest warrants for both parents on counts of first-degree murder, cruelty to kids, and second-degree violence, the department stated.

Fontenot was arrested, according to authorities, while Broussard remained at large for several days after the allegations were announced.

According to authorities, Broussard turned himself in on November 3 and was put into the St. Landry Parish jail.

“Our hearts are with this infant who has suffered unimaginable abuse,” Opelousas Police Chief Graig LeBlanc said. “This case is still in the early stages, and our investigators are working feverishly to unearth every aspect. We beg the public for patience, collaboration, and aid while we seek justice.”
