The father of a teen accused of murdering his stepfather and three half-siblings has spoken out.
“I never would have thought this would happen,” Sean Brasfield’s father, who requested anonymity, told WTVD. “I know there are a lot of eyes on Sean but there are three other innocent children who died.”
Sean’s father reportedly told The News & Observer that he was “in total shock.”
His son, he explained, had cerebral palsy and was blind in one eye. “He was a great kid,” the father told The News & Observer.
On Monday, Oct. 27, authorities discovered Sean, 18, and his three half-siblings in the trunk of a car after receiving a 911 call purportedly from Sean’s 38-year-old stepfather, Wellington Delano Dickens III.
According to a press statement from the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, Dickens allegedly told the phone taker that he had slain his children.
Dickens’ 6-year-old child was allegedly killed in May, while his 9-year-old died in August, according to Johnston County Sheriff Steve Bizzell. The sheriff believes his 10-year-old was killed in August or September. The sheriff claimed Sean was murdered in September, according to The News & Observer.
The News & Observer stated that a 3-year-old boy was discovered alive in the Zebulon residence.
Stephanie Rae Jones Dickens, Sean’s mother, died in April 2024, according to court documents for her estate.
According to her obituary, she married Dickens in August 2015.
According to The News & Observer, Sean’s father claims he and other family members were barred from speaking with his kid after Sean’s mother and Dickens began dating.
He last saw his son about 2014, he told WTVD.
Dickens was charged with four charges of murder. He is being held without bond at the Johnston County Jail.
