A celebration in California turned tragic after a shooting occurred on Halloween night, killing one person and wounding another.
According to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were dispatched to a home in the Newhall district of Santa Clarita — roughly 30 miles north of Los Angeles — on Friday, Oct. 31, at 11:15 p.m. local time after receiving a complaint of a gunshot.
When deputies arrived, they discovered two victims with gunshot wounds to the upper body.
One male victim in his 30s, whose identity has not been revealed, was pronounced dead at the site, while the other, a 27-year-old guy, was sent to a nearby hospital. His condition is classified as “critical,” according to officials.
“Investigators discovered that the shooting was the result of a fight at a Halloween party in the area,” the sheriff’s department stated.
Local news sites, including ABC 7 and KTLA, received video showing emergency teams hurrying to help the victims as they left the celebration crying.
Homicide investigators are still looking into the circumstances behind the shooting, however the sheriff’s department reported that two male adult suspects were spotted fleeing the area. Officials claimed the males were traveling in an unknown destination, and no arrests had been made as of Sunday, November 2.
