A former news anchor has been charged with murder for allegedly stabbing and killing her elderly mother.

Police responded to a “reported cutting” at a residence in Wichita, Kan., at approximately 7:52 a.m. local time on Friday, Oct. 31, according to a media statement issued on Facebook by the Sedgwick County Police Department (SCPD).

When police arrived, they saw a woman standing outside the home, subsequently identified as Angelynn “Angie” Mock, 47. They then entered the home and discovered Mock’s mother, Anita Avers, 80, “unresponsive in her bed with multiple stab wounds.”

Avers was taken to a local hospital, where she died later that morning, according to the media release.

Mock was also treated at the hospital for unidentified injuries before being taken into custody at the Sedgwick County Jail, according to authorities. She was charged with first-degree murder on October 31 and is being held on $1 million bond, according to Sedgwick County public records.

The SCPD’s investigation into the incident is still ongoing.

PEOPLE contacted the SCPD for comment on Sunday, Nov. 2, but did not receive an immediate answer.

Mock worked as a news anchor and reporter for Fox 2 in St. Louis from 2011 until 2015, according to her LinkedIn profile. She then moved into sales and was working for a data management software company when she was arrested, according to LinkedIn.

Mock’s motivation for the alleged offense is unclear at this time. Information regarding her first court appearance is currently unavailable.
