An Iowa man who was convicted in September of murdering a teenage girl last seen on his farm has received his sentence.
James Bachmurski, 66, received a 50-year prison sentence after being convicted of second-degree murder in the killing of 15-year-old Jade Colvin. KCRG, KCCI, and KTTC all report.
During his trial, prosecutors informed the jury that during a second interview with authorities, he said, “You know what? I decided a long time ago that I would die before telling the truth.”
Prior to his sentencing, his attorneys filed a motion for a new trial, claiming that the evidence presented to the jury did not prove his guilt, according to KCRG.
The judge denied the motion.
According to authorities, Colvin’s mother allegedly brought her to live on Bachmurski’s farm in the spring of 2017, although the reason is unclear. Police reported that she was last seen two days after arriving.
In court, Colvin’s sister, Shalie Cinok, accused Bachmurski of being a coward, telling him, “You preyed on a child because no one your own age wanted you,” according to KCRG.
“You saw a young woman, a trusting girl, and decided to take advantage of her kindness,” she told me. “And when you couldn’t control her, you murdered her.”
Terming him “a pathetic, worthless predator,” she concluded: “I hope prison shows you no mercy in the way that you showed none to Jade.”
