Myrtle Beach is making significant investments to improve public safety following recent events, with a focus on upgrading facilities and community policing. The city has allocated over $50 million for public safety improvements in its 5-year plan, which includes construction of new fire and police stations. A notable project is a new $26.5 million fire station set to break ground in 2026, designed to replace the aging Fire Station No. 1. This six-bay facility will be part of a larger public safety complex that also includes a 12-bay transit center.
Additionally, Myrtle Beach is considering plans to replace the 43-year-old Ted Collins Law Enforcement Center with a new, larger police station estimated around 80,000 square feet. Funding for design, engineering, and property acquisition amounting to $25 million is expected in the 2027 fiscal year, with construction costs to be determined.
Besides infrastructure, Myrtle Beach is also enhancing road and pedestrian infrastructure with projects including new water, sewer, stormwater lines, sidewalks, and bike lanes to improve overall community safety and mobility.
These investments reflect a comprehensive effort to modernize public safety facilities, improve response capabilities, and foster safer community environments in Myrtle Beach over the near future.
