New information is emerging about how Kada Scott, the Pennsylvania woman whose bones were discovered two weeks after her disappearance, knew the guy suspected of killing her.
Scott, 23, went missing from her workplace in Philadelphia on October 4, according to authorities.
Her remains were discovered on October 18 after an exhaustive search, which included a GoFundMe appeal launched by her family. Scott was fatally shot, the medical examiner’s office announced on Thursday, October 23.
Keon King, a 21-year-old man who authorities believe was the last person in communication with Scott, has been arrested and charged with murder, arson, and tampering with evidence in the case.
Prosecutors previously stated that Scott had received “harassing” phone calls prior to her disappearance, although it is unclear whether King was involved in those alleged calls.
Prosecutors previously stated that Scott and King knew each other briefly, but did not elaborate on their relationship.
Court documents obtained by KYW News Radio, FOX 29, and 6 ABC now detail purported text exchanges between the two, providing insight into the final moments before Scott vanished.
According to a criminal complaint provided by KYW Radio’s partner, NBC 10, the two began communicating on October 2 and continued until her disappearance.
In that first encounter, Scott received a text message from a number that stated it was their new phone number.
When Scott questioned who they were, the sender stated it was “Kel,” who investigators later identified as King.
On the morning of October 4, Scott reportedly texted King, “kidnap me again,” according to FOX 29 and NBC 10, citing a probable cause document and a complaint.
According to detectives, King texted, “better be up too,” in response.
Later that evening, while Scott was working at the nursing home, a coworker overheard her say to someone on the phone, “I can’t believe you’re calling me about this [expletive],” according to court filings quoted by NBC 10 and FOX 29.
According to investigators, after the phone call, Scott walked to a dark-colored vehicle outside the facility and left instantly.
Scott’s remains were discovered in the woods behind an abandoned spot, where authorities claim they monitored King’s cellphone as a vehicle in question was destroyed.
King used the truck to “move” Scott, prosecutors claimed at a press conference earlier this week.
According to an online court records researcher for PEOPLE, King faces charges such as arson, robbery, abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence, and conspiracy, among others; he is set to be arraigned on Thursday.
King’s plea and attorney details were not available in online court records.
