The man detained in connection with Kada Scott’s disappearance is now facing murder charges.
Scott, 23, was discovered dead in a rural location near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, October 18, two weeks after she went missing from her job.
Keon King, 21, was initially detained on kidnapping charges in connection with her disappearance.
The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office charged him with murder on Wednesday, October 22, according to NBC Philadelphia, CBS News, and ABC 6.
He is also charged with robbery, theft, violating the Uniform Firearms Act, possessing a weapon of crime, tampering with evidence, mistreatment of a corpse, conspiracy, and obstruction of justice, according to NBC Philadelphia. Other allegations filed against King include arson, producing a catastrophe, conspiracy, unlawful use of an automobile, and recklessly harming another person.
PEOPLE contacted King’s attorney, Shaka Mzee Johnson, for comment.
King was detained on October 15, just days before Scott’s remains were discovered at a place where detectives had monitored his cell phone at the time they believe the alleged crime occurred.
Ashley Toczylowski, an assistant district attorney in Philadelphia, had stated that King’s phone was found there when a vehicle was burnt, which she claimed King used to “move” Scott.
Scott disappeared from her office after receiving “harassing” phone calls, her family had informed authorities.
When PEOPLE questioned earlier in the inquiry, police declined to comment on whether King was connected to the calls.
Since King’s arrest, investigators believe they have discovered similar accusations.
Toczylowski stated after his detention that he had been accused with kidnapping and strangulation in a domestic matter earlier this year.
Those accusations were dropped, but prosecutors say they will be re-filed. According to Toczylowski, more alleged victims of King have come forward, and officials believe this is part of a “pattern” of King’s activity.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Scott’s family.
