Charleston County, South Carolina – On Monday morning, Charleston County deputies detained a guy after pursuing him in a stolen vehicle.

According to the incident report, Jose Sanchez-Morales, 18, is charged with failure to stop for a blue light and possession of a stolen car.

Deputies were notified at 3 a.m. of a stolen Kia Optima. The vehicle was discovered utilizing an automatic license plate scanner while going westbound on U.S. Highway 78.

Deputies watched the vehicle pass and attempted a traffic stop, but it fled. This spurred a pursuit on U.S. Highway 78 toward Ingleside Boulevard at speeds of up to 85 mph.

The vehicle lost control on Ingleside Boulevard, crossed into the opposing lane, and collided with a median. This resulted in debilitating damage to the front tires.

Two males exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The driver, Sanchez-Morales, was apprehended, while the passenger escaped arrest.

During a vehicle search, a cellphone was discovered that had been displaced during the crash. Sanchez-Morales claimed the phone was his, and a debit card inside the phone case had his name.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the scene to assist in the investigation of the crash. The automobile was confirmed stolen from the North Charleston Police Department’s jurisdiction.

He was lodged into Al Cannon Detention Center.
