Arrests made in the fatal Spartanburg County shooting

Spartanburg County, South Carolina Two persons have been detained in connection with the shooting that killed one person in Spartanburg County.

According to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a reported shooting at a home on Blue Gill Way in Woodruff shortly before midnight on Friday.

Deputies discovered 21-year-old Aaliyah Simmons, who had reportedly been shot in the chest. Despite life-saving efforts, Simmons died of her injuries on the site.

Deputies arrested 19-year-old Angel Marie Willis on one count of murder, while Jorge Armando Cano Jr., 24, was charged with accessory after the fact.

According to Sheriff’s Office investigators, Willis and Cano arrived at Blue Gill Way with the intention of starting a fight with one of Simmons’ friends, and Willis shot Simmons during the altercation.

Willis and Cano have been put into the Spartanburg County Detention Center, with a bond hearing scheduled for later today. The shooting remains under investigation.
