An 11-year-old boy was killed crossing the street in a hit-and-run accident on Wednesday morning.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Travis Kelley, 11, of Gadsden.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the deadly crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. on October 1 near the intersection of Bluff Road and Blackberry Road, east of Gadsden. Kelley was crossing the road when he was struck and killed by a 2008 Lexus car driving westbound into Gadsden.
According to Master Trooper William Bennett of the Highway Patrol, the automobile then drove away.
Law authorities detained James Hargrave, 55, the car’s driver. Hargrave was arrested shortly after the crash and is currently detained at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Centre.
Hargrave, of Gadsden, has been charged with hit-and-run resulting in death.
