Kershaw County, South Carolina — Two brothers were injured Friday afternoon after a dispute in Kershaw County ended with gunshots, one of whom was taken to the hospital, according to authorities.
The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident occurred around 1:15 p.m. on Bob Hugh Road in the Jefferson area.
Deputies said one brother struck the other with a wooden board before being shot.
The brother claimed he fired the gun in self-defense after being attacked with a wooden board, then called 911 and waited for deputies, according to officials. He stated that he did not intend to kill his brother.
Authorities say the brother who was shot was flown to a nearby trauma center and is expected to recover.
Witnesses reported that the victim was shot once in the left buttock and once in the back of the right thigh, and that the two frequently fought.
The investigation is still ongoing, so no names have been released.
