A weekend crash in Berkeley County has claimed the life of a Bonneau woman, adding to the growing number of road fatalities across South Carolina this year. Officials have identified the victim as 44-year-old Jennifer Dangerfield, who died at the scene of the accident in the Moncks Corner area.

Crash Details from Authorities

According to Sgt. Tyler Tidwell of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 3 p.m. on U.S. Highway 17-A, near the intersection with Old Cherry Hill Road.

Dangerfield was driving a 1998 Toyota RAV4 southbound when her SUV collided head-on with a northbound 2016 Nissan Frontier pickup truck.

The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Dangerfield died from injuries she suffered in the crash.

Passenger Injured, Cause Still Under Investigation

A passenger traveling with Dangerfield was injured and taken to a nearby hospital. As of now, there is no update on the condition of that passenger. Authorities have not released their identity.

No injuries were reported for the driver or any potential passengers in the Nissan Frontier.

Officials also noted that seat belt usage is unknown for anyone involved in the crash.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office are continuing their investigation to determine what caused the deadly collision. No charges or citations have been mentioned at this time.

South Carolina Road Deaths in 2025

As of August 10, at least 513 people have died on South Carolina roads this year, according to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety (DPS). In 2024, the total number of traffic deaths reached 948 across the state.

In Berkeley County alone, 23 people have died in road accidents so far in 2025. Last year, that number was 32, showing that the county remains a high-risk area for serious vehicle crashes.

A Growing Concern Across the State

While authorities continue to investigate what led to this particular crash, the broader trend of rising road deaths remains a serious concern for communities across South Carolina. Speeding, distracted driving, and failure to use seat belts continue to be major contributing factors in fatal wrecks, according to previous DPS reports.

Community leaders and safety advocates continue to push for stronger driver awareness, especially on busy and often dangerous routes like U.S. 17-A.

Remembering Jennifer Dangerfield

Jennifer Dangerfield’s death is another painful reminder of how quickly lives can be lost on the road. Her family and community in Bonneau are now mourning the loss of a loved one, while also hoping for answers and justice through the ongoing investigation.
