A juvenile was arrested on Wednesday in North Charleston after being found in possession of an AR-style pistol. The incident unfolded when a North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) officer noticed the juvenile walking into a store while clutching his waistband with both hands and swaying in a manner that suggested he was concealing a firearm.
Arrest Details and Struggle
After observing the suspicious behavior, officers approached the juvenile as he purchased a drink and asked for his age. When they attempted to detain him, the juvenile reportedly resisted, pushing and pulling away while reaching for his waistband.
“An officer quickly secured him in a body lock and immediately felt the outline of a pistol,” stated the NCPD. During the struggle, the juvenile allegedly attempted to draw the weapon, which prompted the officers to restrain him further. Two officers successfully subdued the juvenile and placed him on the ground, securing him in handcuffs after a brief physical confrontation.
Firearm Recovery and Charges
Upon searching the juvenile, officers recovered a loaded AR-style pistol from his waistband. He was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm. Despite the serious nature of the arrest, the juvenile was later released into the custody of a guardian.
This arrest highlights the continued concerns regarding gun possession among minors in the area. North Charleston police urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity involving firearms, particularly in locations where young individuals are present.
