A Connecticut man is now facing murder charges after the remains of his 70-year-old mother, Tina Lloyd, were discovered dismembered and hidden in more than a dozen trash bags inside her home. The suspect, 27-year-old Theodore Lloyd, was previously charged with attempted arson and trespassing earlier this year. Now, prosecutors have added charges of murder and tampering with evidence following the horrific discovery.
Discovery of the Crime
The investigation into Tina Lloyd’s death began on March 24, when her older son requested a welfare check on her home in West Haven. When police arrived, they were met with a foul odor and entered the house to find 14 to 16 trash bags in a locked closet containing dismembered body parts. There was also evidence of an attempted arson, suggesting that someone had tried to set the house on fire.
The victim’s body was in such a state of decomposition that it took some time to positively identify her. DNA testing later confirmed that the remains belonged to Tina Lloyd. Police also discovered a disturbing trail of evidence, including items used in the dismemberment of her body, leading them to Theodore Lloyd.

Surveillance footage from local stores like Home Depot and Walmart revealed that Theodore Lloyd had purchased items used in the dismemberment, including cutting utensils and an electric chainsaw. In addition, lighter fluid and paper were discovered in the home, which police believe were meant to start a fire to cover up the crime.
Police also learned that Theodore Lloyd had lived with his mother until 2018 when he moved out after a domestic incident. At the time of the murder, he was homeless. Although a motive for the killing has not been disclosed, investigators say that the discovery of his involvement in the crime points to his direct responsibility.

Tina, who was elderly, was still very active in her neighborhood, often going out for walks with a walker and carrying groceries herself. Her neighbor, Denny Steeves, shared his grief, calling her a “very nice lady” and describing her tragic death as heartbreaking.

After the new charges were filed, Theodore Lloyd was arraigned in court, where his bond was increased from $1 million to $3 million. Tina Lloyd’s sister, Debbie Hart, has been following the case closely and attended the hearings, expressing her need for closure and healing. She stated, “I’m going to be here. If he’s going to be here, I’m going to be here. We just need to heal.”
