A woman with a terrible driving record rams into a car, killing one and injuring three, and attempts to flee "extremely discreetly," according to police, after her boyfriend advised her to escape

A 25-year-old Florida woman, Beverly Yvonne Slaughter, is facing serious criminal charges after she crashed her Mercedes-Benz into another car carrying four people in Fort Lauderdale, killing one of the passengers. Police say she tried to run away after the crash — because her boyfriend told her to.

What Happened in the Crash

The crash occurred around 1 a.m. on April 29 at the intersection of West Sunrise Boulevard and NW 24th Avenue. According to police reports, Slaughter was driving a 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class at a very high speed when she entered the intersection.

At the same time, a Nissan Altima with four people inside was making a legal left turn on a green arrow. Slaughter’s Mercedes T-boned the Altima, hitting it on the side. The force of the crash left multiple people injured, and one of the victims was later taken off life support on May 2 and died.

The Attempted Escape

After the crash, surveillance video showed Slaughter running away from her car. A nearby Fort Lauderdale police officer spotted her walking “very quietly” behind a McDonald’s parking lot. He quickly approached and took her into custody.

When asked why she fled, Slaughter allegedly told the officer, “My boyfriend told me to run.”

Charges Against Slaughter

Slaughter has now been charged with 14 offenses, including:

Vehicular homicide

Leaving the scene of a crash involving death

Driving with a suspended license causing death

Prosecutors also noted that her driving history is very troubling.

Slaughter’s Driving Record

Her license has been suspended since 2021. She also has:

A previous conviction for driving without a license

A 2023 arrest for DUI (driving under the influence), fleeing police, and reckless driving

Prosecutors say her past actions show a clear danger to the community, and they believe releasing her would put more people at risk.

Held Without Bond

A judge agreed with prosecutors and ordered that Slaughter remain in jail without bond at the Broward County Jail. Her next court date is scheduled for Friday.

This tragic case is a reminder of how reckless driving and ignoring the law can lead to life-changing — and life-ending — consequences. A woman is dead, others are injured, and now Beverly Slaughter is facing a long list of criminal charges. With her history of dangerous behavior behind the wheel, the court has decided to keep her in custody as the legal process continues.
