Before the school year begins, CCSD releases a new bus tracking app

Parents in the Charleston County School District (CCSD) can now enjoy greater peace of mind when it comes to tracking their children on school buses. Thanks to a partnership with First View, a new and improved version of the First View 1.0 app is set to launch, providing real-time GPS tracking and updates for students while on the bus. The new version promises more efficient tracking, live updates, and enhanced notifications, making it easier for parents to monitor their children’s transportation.

What’s New with First View 1.0?

The First View 1.0 app is a major upgrade from its predecessor, which first launched in 2020. While the initial version faced some complications, the newly redesigned app has been improved based on parent and student feedback. James Lynch, the Executive Director of Student Transportation for CCSD, highlighted that the new app offers a much more robust and user-friendly experience.

One of the most notable features is the minute-by-minute live tracking, allowing parents to see exactly where the bus is in real-time. Parents will also receive distance-based notifications and updated ETA arrivals, so they can know when their child is expected to reach school or the bus stop. This improvement is aimed at providing both parents and students with enhanced security and confidence in the school transportation system.

Key Features of First View 1.0

Live GPS Tracking: Parents can monitor their child’s bus in real-time, ensuring they always know the bus’s current location.

Updated ETA Notifications: Parents will be notified of the estimated arrival times for both the bus stop and school.

Automated Route Changes: The app allows students to make automated route changes, adding flexibility and convenience for families.

Alerts for Family Members: Parents can set up alerts to notify other family members or caregivers about the bus’s progress.

24/7 Support Team: A dedicated support team will be available at all times to troubleshoot any issues with the app.

Enhancing Safety and Security

The main goal of the updated app is to provide safety, security, and peace of mind for parents and students. Lynch emphasized that the First View 1.0 app is designed to ensure parents feel comfortable knowing exactly when the bus will arrive and when their child is safely on the way to school.

“We want to make sure that parents feel comfortable putting their kids on the school bus and having that ability to track their student and knowing when the bus is arriving to the stop and when the bus is arriving to school,” said Lynch.

What Parents Need to Know

Starting July 21st, parents will need to download the new First View 1.0 app, as the current app will no longer be functional. To register, parents will need their route number and code, which will be provided by CCSD.

With the launch of First View 1.0, Charleston County parents can now track their child’s bus in real-time, receive timely updates, and have peace of mind knowing their child’s safety is being closely monitored. The improved app reflects CCSD’s commitment to enhancing student safety and providing parents with the tools to stay connected with their child’s school transportation.
