MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. — A $15 argument between two roommates in Minneapolis escalated into a fatal stabbing, leaving a 25-year-old man dead and his 21-year-old roommate facing second-degree murder charges. Sincir Malik Porter has been charged after allegedly stabbing his roommate, Abdirahman Adan Abdirahman, in the neck on Sunday, according to a probable cause statement.
What Happened
Police responded to an apartment on Hiawatha Avenue Sunday afternoon and found a large amount of blood on the floor and walls in the living room. They quickly recovered a bloodied knife at the front of the apartment. Abdirahman had been stabbed in the neck and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The Argument and Stabbing
According to the police report, Porter allegedly told a third party at the scene that Abdirahman “made [him] flash out.” Witnesses stated that Porter stabbed his roommate during an argument over $15. A surveillance camera in the apartment confirmed the incident, showing the two arguing with Porter holding a knife. In the footage, Porter is seen switching hands with the knife before stabbing his roommate in the neck.
“[Abdirahman] appeared to get into a fighting stance before he realized he had been stabbed and collapsed to the ground,” Minneapolis police wrote in their report.
Arrest and Confession
Police later found Porter in a different part of the neighborhood. When they approached him, Porter reportedly said, “Yeah, you got me.” After being read his Miranda rights, Porter admitted to the stabbing and revealed he had thought about killing Abdirahman and his other roommates in the past.
Porter remains in custody at Hennepin County Jail with a $1 million bond, according to online jail records.
A Tragic Outcome Over a Small Dispute
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of how seemingly small arguments can escalate into deadly violence. Porter now faces serious charges and will be held accountable for his actions.
