West Ashley, S.C. – Lowcountry moms received a little extra help this weekend at a special event hosted by ‘I Serve With Joy’ and Healthy Horizons. The free Mommy Wellness event aimed to meet the physical, emotional, and educational needs of parents, offering a full-service experience for families in the community.
A Day of Wellness and Education
Held at The Citadel Mall in West Ashley, the event ran from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and featured a variety of expert-led wellness workshops. Local doulas led discussions on parenting, and moms had the chance to chat with pediatric specialists and mental health professionals. One notable booth, the Second Chance Resource Center, focused on serving families impacted by the justice system, particularly mothers who have been incarcerated.
Patsy Gardner, Executive Director of the Second Chance Resource Center, shared her mission: “I just want people to understand that returning citizens deserve a second chance. We should embrace them and empower them to move forward, because everyone deserves that chance.”
Support for Families in Need
Community psychologist Pam Imm attended the event, bringing a family from Orangeburg to get resources and support. She expressed her gratitude for the event, saying, “There’s a lot of activity and opportunities for families to get education and resources they might not have had access to otherwise.”
Pam also shared that the family she brought was being reunited with their baby and that the event provided valuable physical resources, as well as educational support.
Fun and Resources for Moms
The event also included a cooking demonstration, an afternoon giveaway, and a community baby shower. Moms received free baby essentials such as diapers, wipes, and self-care items to help with the costs of raising a child.
The Mommy Wellness event provided Lowcountry moms with the resources, education, and support they need to care for themselves and their families. With a focus on community care and empowerment, the event gave mothers the tools to nurture their well-being and that of their children.
