In a major crackdown on drug activity, the Charleston Police Department has arrested several individuals as part of a long-running investigation into illegal drug distribution in the city’s Eastside neighborhoods.
Investigation Sparked by Community Complaints
The operation began in March 2025 after residents raised concerns about suspected drug activity in and around Mall Park and Hampstead Square. The department’s Special Investigations Unit launched a focused effort to address the issue, which has now led to multiple arrests.
Who Was Arrested
Authorities have named the following individuals as part of the recent bust:
Laron Eva Horlback, 46, of Charleston – Charged with three counts of distributing cocaine base and three counts of distributing drugs near a school. Horlback is already under probation supervision for past drug offenses.
Timothy Robert Harrison, 38, of Goose Creek – Charged with distributing cocaine base. Harrison is also currently under probation for previous drug convictions.
Travis Jerome Simmons, 49, of North Charleston – Charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine base and distribution near a school.
Anthony Lamont Simmons, 31, of North Charleston – Charged with two counts of distributing cocaine base.
Melvin Clearance Horlback, 46, of Hanahan – Charged with distribution of cocaine base and distribution near a school.
Suspect Still at Large
Police are still searching for one suspect, Chevelle Antoine Hamilton, 45, of North Charleston. He has an active warrant for the distribution of cocaine base.
