On June 24, Jessica walked into work expecting a normal day at the 7-Eleven store in the 5700 block of Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles. However, her day quickly turned into a nightmare. According to her brother, Sean McLaughlin, Jessica was violently attacked by one of her managers.
The attack occurred just before Jessica’s shift was set to end. The manager allegedly threw a bottle at Jessica before pushing her to the ground, pinning her down, and sitting on her chest, depriving her of oxygen. Some of Jessica’s coworkers attempted to intervene and stop the assault, but they too were attacked. After finally breaking free, Jessica collapsed, unable to breathe. Her coworkers immediately performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Jessica unconscious and rushed her to the hospital. Her attacker had fled the scene before police arrived. According to Sean McLaughlin, the manager attempted to delete the security footage of the incident before fleeing on a bike.
Doctors later confirmed what the family had feared: Jessica had no brain activity, and her condition was irreversible. The family, devastated by the loss, is now preparing to take her off life support and arrange for her funeral.

Sean McLaughlin penned a heartfelt tribute to his sister on the GoFundMe page, writing that Jessica was much more than a sister—she was a daughter, a best friend, and an incredible aunt. He described Jessica as a kind-hearted soul who made everyone around her feel loved and accepted. She had a gift for making people feel safe, and she was always there for those who needed her.
“She had such a beautiful soul and deserved so much better than the way her life was taken from her,” Sean said.
The Investigation and Company Response
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is continuing the investigation into Jessica’s tragic death. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the manager’s whereabouts remain unknown.
7-Eleven has issued a statement confirming that the manager involved in the attack has been fired and that the company is fully cooperating with law enforcement. The company expressed its deep sorrow over the incident, saying, “Our hearts are with those impacted during this difficult time.”
